FAQ’s

Do you teach in bad weather?

Yes and No - We actually quite like some rain & wind so yes lessons will continue as usual. However, we really don't like either in excess! If winds are gusting above 20mph we will think about moving lesson times or location, over 25mph we will look to rescheduling for the next suitable day. After all, we are here to surf not to fly a kite! We will definitely reschedule if Heavy Fog, Lightning or Pollution is present. See our full cancellation policy here.

How far is the walk to the water?

Short walk to the beach for surfing, less than 200yards away at all locations. (Bonus warm up totally free of charge)

Is there parking?

There is always parking. Prices do vary from £2.40 for 2 hours all the way up to £6.20 for the day depending on where you park. That being said, there’s always a free spot somewhere close by & free parking between October half term and Easter.

Are there any toilets?

Yes, at all locations. Porthtowan possibly has the cleanest public loo’s ever!

Luxury Loo’s at The Unicorn On The Beach are also available when purchasing your well earned refreshments. ☺️

Are there any changing rooms?

Changing rooms are available at the main Porthtowan school.

Changing rooms are not currently available at our pop up locations as on these days we are a mobile operation. We are working on it! Bring a towel!

Can I buy refreshments & sun-care?

Yes we sell sun care on site. However, we advise you to bring plenty of water with you. Most of the locations do have shops, cafes and restaurants nearby & our personal favourite is The Unicorn On The Beach. Please Bring a Reusable Drinking Flask/Bottle - Free Water Top Up Available on Site & Hot Drinks Available Nearby - (The Unicorn On The Beach). We are going plastic free for 2020.

Are surf coaches also lifeguards?

Yes, all of our coaches hold current RLSS beach lifeguard qualifications and water rescue competency certificates which are renewed on a regular basis.

Can I wear my own wetsuit?

No problem! You can wear your own wetsuit, if you'd prefer.

Can I bring my own surfboard?

Yes, you can bring your our board to the beach and depending on the conditions, ability and your progress we will decide whether to use yours or one of ours on the day.

TYPES OF LESSONS.

Typical Group Lessons (Normal)

Group lessons are your normal surfing lessons. We work at a ratio of maximum of 8 students to 1 instructor so that you get the full benefits of a small group experience. Each and every person will get one to one time with their instructor as well as being part of a group of similar ability. This course will get you standing in no time at all.

Private Lessons

This lesson is for those of you who are looking for that little extra push, working closely with your instructor we will look at your level and target specific areas that need improving. This lesson is proven to be the fastest and most progressive option. One to One lessons are also a great option for beginners and improvers who want a quieter, more personal experience. Also perfect for couples!

Family Lessons - Private Group

Make your surfing lesson one to remember with your very own beach lifeguard and qualified instructor at your side every step of the way, you will dive into the world of surfing knowing that your family are in the very best care whilst having maximum fun. This lesson is a private group lesson.

WHY CHOOSE US?

Smaller Group Experience

Smaller groups equal a much more relaxed, organised and enjoyable experience. Here at Eskinzo we welcome a maximum of between 1-8 people of similar ability per instructor to create a fun, safe & memorable small group atmosphere. Ratios do vary but on average we try to maintain a Ratio of 1-4 of mixed ability.

Beginners & Intermediates

Cornwall has a vast selection of surfing beaches, perfect for beginners & intermediates. With summertime conditions usually consisting of lighter winds and slightly smaller waves, it’s a great time for learners & improvers!

Get Surfing Better, Faster

We are passionate about coaching and this passion is reflected within our lessons. Quality surf coaching consisting of personally tailored surf theory accompanied with optional photo & video analysis will get you surfing right away, even if you have never tried before. (Intermediate/Advanced Lessons)

The Cornish Surf Trip

We'll turn your holiday into a "Proper" Cornish surf trip in no time. We are one of the few schools in Cornwall to offer lessons over multiple locations, in addition to this we can provide an optional photo package to most lessons so you can take away your memories made with us.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON ARRIVAL?

Arriving at The Surf School in Porthtowan (TR4 8AB) for Surf, Sup, Fitness, Yoga or Sport Massage Sessions - you will be welcomed by either myself Ben, Tony, or one of the team. After an introduction and quick overview of your activity ahead, we will jump into wetsuits ready for your lesson.

The atmosphere is always relaxed & social. We like our guests to feel as comfortable as possible, so at this stage we will be happy to put any fears or worries to rest. Remember you don't need any previous experience and you will have the full support from your instructor throughout the lesson. The majority of our lessons are taught at waist to chest depth water. Once the whole group is happy & raring to go we will make our way down to the beach.

Your lesson will be broken down into two parts & we will explain & demonstrate everything in manageable stages. Firstly we’ll cover beach safety, how to manage your surfboard & catching waves for the first time. Secondly we’ll teach techniques & tips on how to get to your feet whilst riding a wave back to the shore.

You don't need to be a strong swimmer to join these sessions, just up & ready for giving it good go!

WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR LESSON?

WE SUPPLY ALL EQUIPMENT, WETSUITS AND SAFETY GEAR REQUIRED TO TAKE PART IN OUR ACTIVITIES.

You should however, bring a Towel, Suncream, plenty of Drinking Water and Swimwear.
